This activity allows the children to think about the philosophical traits of a selection of story characters. the children should decide which of the two selected cards best fits their idea of the given concept.
Characters could include; Clown, Policeman, Big bad Wolf, Wicked Queen, Wise King, Dragon, Witch, Fairy, Father Christmas, Captain Hook, Werewolf etc. place 2 cards on the board with one of the following concepts;
cleverest
saddest
scariest
nastiest
kindest
happiest
most magical
most powerful
You may wish to add concepts such as wisest, most honest, most respected, luckiest and most free as the children become more skilled at identifying and using these concepts in their enquiries.
Great idea -going to try this next week as part of one of my storytelling sessions on fairy tales. Thank you

Love this idea. Did something similar with Super Heroes and kids loved it. Top of my list for P4C session next year, thanks.

I am not sure how this is this philosophical or how it promotes challenging dialogic talk. Could it not reinforce stereotyping (lack of thought(? Shouldn’t we be challenging polarisation and rather than embedding it as an isolated technique?
